This was the first oil by Mark Sibley that I read and it did not disappoint. The opening scene hit hard, but the context was necessary to set the backdrop for the much of what would come next. The dialogue throughout was rich and on point. I loved the scene where a character was trying to argue his boss into pushing harder against The Machine. The character ended up reassigned. I’ve seen that happen. It’s chilling in its own right. Little things like that from an author really hit home with different readers and that one for me had that punch. And that idea of foreign nations running agents and cells inside our country. Yup. I buy that possibility. Loved it. Well into book two, now.
Couldn't put it down. Terrifying and thrilling, I shouldn't have waited so long to read it.
After 2 years of watching everyone harass Mr. Sibley for a sequel, I decided to check out the first book. Listened to the audiobook first, because I drive a truck, liked it so much I bought the paper back. I fully understand why the pressure for the sequel now.
Just kidding. I was glued to the book. Sibley can flat out write. The new techno-thriller master!
I was pleased with this book, most books that deal in this subject tend to get into all kinds of wacko right wing conspiracies etc etc. This though was a good read. I liked the pace and getting the perspective from the different characters gave it depth. Looking forward to reading book two.
